Re: Protestant Hour 1995
Dear Rev, Buchanan:

I just received word from the Rev. Ted Yaple that you have agreed to be a speaker
on the 1995 Protestant Hour. The staff a PCUSA in Louisville as well as those of us

involved in the ministry are more than pleased you have agreed to do so.

The Rev. Yaple has asked that I send you the dates and texts for your four sermons, The
information is as follows:

March 19th 3rd Sunday of Lent Luke 13:1-9
August 20th Luke 12:49-59
September 17th Luke 15:1-10
October 15th Luke 17:11-19

In terms of sermon length, we like the scripture reading and the message to total
between twelve and fifteen minutes. Rev. Buchanan, we don't want to restrict you, thus a
sermon that runs a little less or a bit more is acceptable if necessary.

Appended, a Protestant Hour Intro and Exit script and a PH Facts and Questions
for X-Tatk sheet for a recent program featuring Dr. Henry Mobley, the present
Presbyterian speaker. The script depicts the program layout, the music incorporated, and
the announcer copy incorporated. The cross talk sheet is used to provide Don Elliot
Heald, the program host/announcer, with some insight into the speaker, the sermon and
any other points we feel would help to make the segment more conversational and
interesting to the audience. I've also included a cassette tape of Dr. Mobley's program,
“Down A Crooked Mile." It should give you some idea of the flow of the show. -

PARTICIPATING DENOMINATIONS: THE EPISCOPAL CHURCH; EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN AMERICA;
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA); THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Weill be recording the cross talk segment at the same time you record your
sermons in Atlanta on January 27, 1995, We do this segment in a loose manner. Don
Heald the program announcer is very easy to work with. Working together we'll evolve
the conversation into a relaxed informative narrative. I will send you script outlines and
cross talk sheets for your four programs a week or so before we record. To put them
together, however, I need your sermons. Please forward as soon as you have them
completed. The first or 2nd week in January would be fine. Thanks much,

What is referred to as the "teaser" on Dr. Mobley's material is normally a lift from
the body of the sermon. For 1995 we're asking, (specifically for 1995 50th anniversary
programming), the speaker to recall any Protestant Hour memories one might have...
maybe a speaker you heard on the program... or the first time you heard it... or maybe a
conversation about a program or speaker you had with a fellow pastor or lay person. ff
this is not possible we'll come up with opening lines that will accomplish the same feat.

it would be helpful... at your convenience... if you could send a resume and a
picture. The picture and information taken from the resume will be used in the Protestant
Hour newsletter, "Outreach," which will be published prior to your sermons airing. We
will be promoting through press releases, etc. as well.

It is hoped we can promote the programs in Chicago. The program is presently not
broadcast in the Chicago metro area. We've targeted Chicago as a "station acquisition
market." One of my charges is the marketing of the program. I'll contact you in the
foreseeable future and we can discuss the potentiality of the Protestant Hour in Chicago.
My goal: to have the program placed no later than prior to the airmg of your August
program. If things go right we might be able to achieve the goal before the March
program airs.

After you've digested your charge and thought about your sermons, give me a call
or drop me a line if you feel I can be of some assistance. My phone number is (404) 921-
6735. You can write me in care of PRTVC as noted on this letterhead. Ted Yaple is also
available at PCUSA headquarters in Loutsville.

Again, let me say thanks for agreeing to present your sermons on the Protestant
Hour. I look forward to working with you..

Sincerely,

ede
