JMB Remarks prior to sermon on July 17th.

I had a lesson in basic theology and ecclesiology early this morning at about 6:50 am as I walking to the church down Michigan Avenue the bus stopped in front of Bloomingdales and exiting the bus was a well dressed woman we greeted one another as people do in the early morning, she observed my collar and she said are you a priest and I said well sort of but that’s a long story. And so we walked across the street and she said where is your church, and I said well this it in fact, I work here, at Fourth Presbyterian Church, that’s a Presbyterian church and she said, well excuse me I’m a Catholic, what’s the difference between Catholics and Presbyterians? Well it was 6:50 a.m. I was on my way here, and I didn’t have a lot of time, so I said not much, there’s that Pope business that we don’t. We had a little conversation and I entered the building and as I was stepping in she said excuse me one more time, I’m a good Catholic but don’t tell anybody I think there is just one God. And I said Amen to that and that actually was the launch pad for this sermon. Let us pray.
